Estero Bay report week of April 7th

Capt. Jon Fetter
April 10, 2013
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing this past week was consistent with the sea trout bite being the most. Grass flats in 3-5 feet of water provided the best action for anglers looking for table fare. Shrimp under a popping cork was the set-up. Try and locate clear water for this is where they will be. You will also pick up ladyfish, jacks, and the occasional shark with this method. There was still some redfish action on high water along the mangrove edges. Shrimp tipped jig heads was the go-to method. Anglers can also try cut bait like ladyfish when the water is dirty, but shrimp worked best with clear, clean water. The nearshore reef action is starting to heat up with large Spanish mackerel, trout, pompano, ladyfish, and sheepshead on the menu. Shrimp bounced on the bottom will work best, but don't sleep on a slow retrieve for the mac's. There has also been some decent action in the pass with ladyfish, jacks, trout, Spanish mac's, and sharks being caught daily. Shrimp tipped jig head produced the best action.
