Estero Bay report week of October 24th

Capt. Jon Fetter
October 31, 2013
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

As the water temps start to cool off it is time for anglers to switch gears and begin targeting new fish. Sheepshead, snapper, seatrout, and black drum will become the go-to fish for this time of year. Try downsizing your hooks for the stripped convict sheepies and bait stealing snapper. They will drive you crazy with their ability to take shrimp off hooks. Tip your #1 or 1/0 circle hooks with just enough shrimp to cover the hook, this will increase your chances for hook-up's. Locate these fish around blow down near mangrove edges or deeper oyster bars. Seatrout will start showing up over the grass flats in 3-5 feet of water and locating them will be easy with shrimp under a popping cork. Anglers can also try a DOA deadly combo with white or rootbeer colored shrimp. Black drum will be hanging around docks and mangrove islands. Try using shrimp tipped jig heads for them up around the edges and docks. Anglers will also pick up their share of redfish with this method.
