Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Not sure how else to put it except for excellent, the fishing that is. It didn't matter if you were staying in the backbays or venturing to the nearshore reefs, the fish cooperated. In the shallows the redfish bite continues to be very strong. Shrimp on a jig head thrown into the mangroves pockets produced very good numbers of keepers while shrimp under a float around the oyster bars provide many double digit fish. The seatrout bite remained very good with shrimp under a popping cork the go-to method. You will also pick up ladyfish with this technique. Moving to the nearshore reefs, the best set-up was shrimp on a jig head worked on or near the bottom. Pompano, sheepshead, trout, ladyfish, Spanish mackerel, and even a few grouper were some of the variety for the week. If you want to chase birds, the Spanish mackerel will take just about anything shiny thrown their way.
