Warmer Weather Brings Fantastic Fishing to Estero Bay

Capt. Greg Stamper
March 17, 2015
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

It was a great week to be on the water! Snook, redfish, trout, cobia, tripletail, permit, mackerel, and even tarpon got in the mix this week. With great conditions it was hard to decide what to do. When there was no wind, we fished the nearshore wrecks and reefs using crabs, shrimp, and threadfin. These baits work well when free lined for the permit or cobia. If you have a few heavy rods drop those same baits down to the bottom and hold on! When we ran into pilchards we went snook fishing, using 2/0 circle hooks and 30-40lb fluorocarbon leader did the job. The redfish bite continues to be strong, and jigs with a live shrimp continue to put them in the boat. Time to pay attention for schools of Redfish pushing water around on the flats. The trout bite continues to be great with some 4-5 lb fish caught this week on both topwater, and the old reliable popping cork.

Target Species:

snook, redfish, trout, cobia, tripletail, permit, mackerel, tarpon
