Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing is definitely in the summer pattern which means get out early and fish the shadow lines for redfish and snook. They will take free lined white baits on 2/0 circle hooks and shrimp tipped 1/8 oz jig heads. You will also pick up them up on cut ladyfish and thread fin herrings. Work the shadows on high water up around the mangroves and floating docks. When fishing the docks look for good moving water and get your baits way under the structure, in what we call the strike zone for snook. The grass flats have been producing good numbers of trout on the shrimp / popping cork method in 3-5 feet of water. Move to the passes for some really good action of sea trout, ladyfish, whiting, Spanish mackerel, pompano, and a variety of sharks. Shrimp tipped jig heads seem to work best. There has also been some very good reef action with shrimp on the bottom for Spanish, sea trout, jacks, grunts, whiting, and even a few grouper. Cut bait has also been working, and you can sabiki plenty of threads right now. If tarpon is your thing, they are moving in closer and starting to feed on free lined threads. Get out early, net you up some bait, and start your drifts in about 16 feet of water. You will also pick up some decent sharks with this method.
