Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The bite in the backbay's and nearshore areas continues to be really good. The redfish action has been some of the best of the year when working the mangroves on high water. Shrimp on a 1/8 oz jig head or under a float will work fine. Anglers will even have some success on cut ladyfish on a 3/0 circle hook. If artificial are your thing try skitterwalks, spooks, or chug baits over the grass flats on low water, this is where the reds will be. Spotted seatrout have been hitting shrimp under a popping cork in 3-5 feet of water with a grass bottom. There is plenty of good bait to be caught near the passes and off the beach, and that means one thing snook. Try using live bait on a 3/0 circle hook around the floating docks and mangroves. Work the passes for trout, ladyfish, pompano, and small sharks using shrimp under a popping cork or bounced on the bottom on 1/8 oz jig heads. If the winds slow down get out to the nearshore reefs for some really good action. The fall bait run is on and that brings the Spanish mackerel, bonita, and even tarpon to the area. Work the bait pods with silver spoons for the bonita and Spanish and throw live bait for the tarpon on 6/0 circle hooks. October is some of the best fishing of the year, so get out and enjoy…
