Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Even though the wind made for difficult travels on the water, the fish didn't seem to mind. There are still plenty of hungry redfish up around the mangroves on high water. Try throwing shrimp tipped 1/8 oz jig heads as far back as you can go. They have been really pushing up far into the roots. As the tide goes out, the fish move to the nearby grass flats and shallow oyster bars. Here anglers can work topwater plugs like skitterwalks, and spooks or use good old shrimp and a popping cork. The cork makes for easier casting with the windy conditions. There is still a good number of trout cruising the grass in 3-5 feet of water. Shrimp and a popping cork will work best, but they will hit top water plugs, jerk shads, and paddle tail grubs just the same. As the water continues to cool, they will start getting more aggressive and should be all over the flats looking for food. In addition to sea trout, sheepshead will start to move into the backbay with the cooling water temps. Remember to downsize you hooks and line for best results. I find that #1 circle hooks with a split shot works best. These bait stealers make for some really good table fair and great action on light tackle.
