Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fish have started to move into their respective winter patterns. With this in mind anglers should start working their baits slow and low in the water column. The redfish are still around and biting on shrimp tipped jig heads thrown up around the mangroves on high water. As the water recedes, start working the grass flats with shrimp under a popping cork. Trout are feeding over the grass flats in 3-5 feet of water in the afternoon warmer conditions and will gladly take shrimp under a popping cork. During the cooler mourning's work the deeper channels and cuts near the grass and mangroves, this is where they will be. If artificial are your thing, work mirror lures and zara spooks over the shallow grass flats in the afternoons after the water has heated up. There are also plenty of sheepshead moving into the back bay areas. Gear down with smaller circle hooks and tip them with shrimp for your best chance for some of these bait stealers. The passes have been proving great for trout, ladyfish, jacks, small sharks, and Spanish mackerel. Shrimp tipped jig heads bounced along the bottom with work best.
