In a word - Redfish

Capt. Jon Fetter
September 15, 2011
Estero Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

The word for the last week has been Redfish. The bite remained very steady with numerous slot size fish being boated. There were also a few very nice oversized fish caught as well.

Shrimp under floats around the mangrove shorelines on high water seemed to work best. Also, shrimp on 1/8 oz jig heads proved effective in the same areas. If artificial's are your thing, then Zara spooks and rapala skitterwalks will work fine. Use them early in the morning and switch to jerk shads either zoom or gulp later in the day.

There are still some really nice snook around the docks and mangroves, and they have been eating nicely. Free lined pinfish on 2/0 circle hooks is the ticket.

The seatrout bite is starting to pick up over the grass flats in about 3-5 feet of water. The combination of shrimp on a popping cork produced the best action.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Jon Fetter
