Everglades City, Chokoloskee and Everglades National Park

Everglades City - Saltwater Fishing Report

Everglades/Chokoloskee/10,000 Islands 1/31 - 2/4

After the big snook spanking in the rain this weekend (sog-a-rama). Approximately 60 fish in two days ... 10-12 in the slot ... many on fly, things tapered off quite a bit.

I had groups of six on Monday and five on Tuesday aboard the Blue Bird Daze.. Some good trout action on the rising tide with both ... weather was so spectacular I eased offshore with one of the groups to "Vickie's Snapper Hole" The kids (and I!) had a field day with mangroves to 4-5lbs. No cobia, however.

I scooted out in the afternoon Tuesday to scout for tarpon ... found a few that would not eat...still early, but I it is still very hard to wait!!!.

When spin fishing I have a very reliable swimming shad tail jig that is very productive. John Driscoll, Toxic Shark, ties all my flies and has finally reproduced this lure amazingly in a fly ... so I thought. Wednesday morning, we fished the fall with the long rods for a few hours... did not even raise a snook to the fly!! I am not giving up on this this pattern yet, however.

I talked with a few others ... snook bite has been slow in the am picking up with the rise in the afternoon ... not surprising with the full moon... the snook were pounding out back of my house ~ 9pm both Tuesday night, as well as, last night.

For those that haven't tried it yet, the next scheduled kayak (mother ship) fishing trips are set for Feb 15 and Feb 22...maybe the poons will be in by then ... Seafood Festival is this weekend, so I am going upstate for a speaking engagement (Kayak Fishing) ... good luck this weekend, but leave early Sunday and be very careful ... the crowds last year meant about 2 hours to make to US41!!!

Tight Lines!!
