Awesome Summertime Fishing

Capt. Ariel Cabrera
July 14, 2010
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

The peak of summertime fishing is here and we are hooking up on the flats and bay consistently. Flamingo has had a great trout, snapper, and tripletail bait. The tarpon bite has tapered off just a bit however; good, warm weather has resulted with great overall fishing experiences. Redfishing has been good with mostly slot-size fish on the flats. We have been using weedless platic baits and spoons. Shark fishing has also been excellent. Big bulls and lemons are very hungry with these warm waters. Use live or dead baits like barracuda or ladyfish for fast results. Despite the negative word on the oil spill the fishing has been phenomenal.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

In Biscayne Bay the bonefishing has been awesome. Permit fishing has also been good on the flats edges. And in the channels, there have been tons of snapper, porgies, and other bottom dwellers to keep a bent rod all day long. The bite has been totally correlated with the tide. So far this summer, it seems the fish will bite at any light as long as the tide is moving. Late afternoons and early mornings have been good. If the bait shop is out of crabs then use the shrimp. We did have a few bonefish refusals on crabs. You may need to put two shrimp on if they are very small, which is typical this time of year. There are plenty of those yellow jacks and boxfish on the same flats, along with huge sharks. And don't forget the big ‘cudas. Lots of fun on light tackle.

Special thanks to some of the folks that have fished with me recently: Sean Haggerty and guest, Jeremy Myers and family, Mark Larson, Erick Scheneider and son, and Brian Nauman and spouse.

Give me a call if you are interested in a fishing trip, flyfishing lesson, or are buying a new or used boat. I am offering a unique price on a 4hr. Biscayne Bay trip (only $275) on www. halfoffdepot.com/Miami
