Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

First of all I would like to thank Charlotte Ambrogio (Tournament Director) for making the event possible and making it what it is and to everyone else that made the event possible. My good friend Ken Diaz and I teamed up for the event. There would be one thing different in this tournament than in every other tournament Ken and I fish. This time Ken would be poling me around and I would be fishing. We would be going after snook and redfish on fly. It was windy both days and the water was still a bit cold in the early am. After making a long run on day 1 our first stop gave me shots at redfish and snook which I was only able to capitalize on the redfish. The rest of the day we worked hard to get that snook we needed but 3:00pm came around and it was time to call it a day and to look forward to day 2 of the tournament. I was hoping for some calmer winds for day 2 but the wind had its own plan. With the windy conditions we ran to the same general area as day one and started the hunt. Soon enough we came across some fish, some being spooky and some having lock jaw. After spooking some fish and having a few redfish ignore the fly, I spotted a redfish cruising slowly and dropped the fly (shrinnow) in his path and BAM! Fish On! Again we had our redfish but no snook and time was running out. 3:00pm rolled through again and it was time to head back to the Lorelei in Islamorada. Even though we didn't get that snook we needed, Ken and I still had a great time catching redfish on fly and competing in the tournament. I also want to thank Ken for poling me around both days despite the windy conditions. Congrats to all the winners! This week we will be fishing the Backbone Lures 1 jig/fly tournament Saturday March 7th and looking to get some redemption on some snook.
