Cold weather, hot fishing

Capt. Alex Zapata
December 12, 2018
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Cold front activity has been consistent por the past few weeks, making the fish congregate in all their winter time whereabouts: deep holes, passes, moats, creeks and channels. The fishing in the creeks is red hot right now. some days have been crazy good to say the least.

The classic jig and shrimp has been making most of the damage, producing as many as 80 fish per trip fishing. Bucktail jigs, skimmers jigs, gulp shrimp and soft plastics have also been working for the angler that prefers artificial lures over the live bait. We've been catching loads of small redfish which is a welcoming sight. Redfish became very scarce in the last 3 years so it is very encouraging to see them coming back strong. The trout have been all over along with snook, blackdrum, sheepshead, baby Goliath groupers, snappers, jacks, Ladyfish and the pesky catfish. If you enjoy catching lots of fish and variety, it is a great time to go out.

Let's go fishing!
