Early season Tarpon

Capt. Jim Hobales
November 19, 2010
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

111910

I fished with my buddies Bruce and Bernie today, I had been telling them about all the Tarpon that have been around so we did it. Our first stop was to catch some bait, 2 throws of the net filled my live well with enough pilchards to live chum all day. We ran to Government Cut and worked every hole I have, these guys can fish and put plenty of species in the boat. The water was crystal clear and we could the mackerels schools below us. We caught Gag Groupers, Red Groupers, Mutton Snappers, Mackerels, Cudas and fished the Tarpon schools all morning. Bernie had a nice Tarpon on until it jumped and thru the hook. We got out in front of South beach and were treated to a great show of rolling Tarpon, but it was extremely busy. The jet skis and parasail and some sort of concert preparation kind of effected the area. I said lets run back north and try a couple different places for Snook and Tarpon. I hit the Haulover bridge and and didn't catch anything but there were Snook stacked up there. We then moved in to Dumbfounding Bay looking for a Tarpon we also found a ton of Jacks between 1 and 7 lbs which loved our live chum. The mullet are so thick back there its not funny! We did have a giant Tarpon hit our mullet and miss it, come back hit it again then it was gone.

We caught a few more Jacks and then called it a day, everyone was beat

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

Bait is very thick right now and a shrimp run could be on the way. Theres food for all the species catch some and try it out.
