Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Everglades Backcountry
One of the many reason I love fishing the Glades is because it's different everyday. You can fish the same spot two days in a row and it can be hot one day and ghost town the next. Whether it is the wind direction, water clarity, bait, or salinity levels the fish are always moving around, so it forces us as anglers to adjust with them. What you saw yesterday might be completely different the next and that's what I love about being able to fish the Glades.
This day found us deep in the backcountry out of Everglades City looking for snook and redfish. After we located bait and found the right water clarity, snook started being released. I fished with good friend Allan Albess from Davie, Fl and he did a number on some snook up to 25 inches with the fly rod. We threw flies and weedless jerkbaits up in the mangroves and also sight fished a bunch of laid up snook on some mudflats near Lostmans River. We saw some extremely violent bites from these laid up snook, which in my opinion is the most exciting way to fish for snook.

The last few days were with the guys from Garmin that wanted to get some video and photos of their new units that are coming out in 2013. We also managed to do a little fishing as well. The first day was out of Everglades City and we got some nice reds, snook, and trout fishing around the islands out front. There is plenty of bait out on the islands along with some predators lurking around. The next day was out of Biscayne Bay and this was more of a photo shoot than anything else. They took close to 3,000 pictures and got some really cool under water shots. I was very impressed with the new units that Garmin is coming out with. Thanks to Capt. Jim Hale for setting this up.

Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and gets to spend some time with family and friends. If your looking to get out an experience some Everglades fishing, give me a call and we will set something up.
