Fantastic Everglades fishing

Capt. Alex Zapata
July 21, 2019
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Calm winds, abundant rain and high weather temperatures make the Everglades the perfect place "to be" for stellar fishing in the summer. Those who chose to stay away from the heat and leave Florida by late spring, miss out big time, the very best fishing of the year in the Everglades, Miami and the keys.

The flamingo area in the Everglades has been producing consistent action for redfish, snook, tarpon, trout and tripletail.

Tripletail have been all over the place, both keepers and short ones. Tripletail are lots of fun to catch and one of my favorite to eat. Baby tarpon are plentiful now and is not unusual to have over 15 bites in the first two hours of the morning. Redfish have been very abundant on the flats while sightfishing with flies and soft plastics. It looks like some of those little fish we had been catching by the hundreds in the creeks have started to grow and to move up to the flats. It's great to see the redfishing in shallow water flourishing again.

Sea trout fishing has been awesome with some studs caught in the mullet muds and deeper basins. The trout have started to move to the skinny flats again and we are starting to see some big laid up trout in potholes and cruising on the flats, great Flyfishing and light spinning treats while sight fishing.

It is safe to say that the snook fishing is right now, as good as I've ever seen it in all my years fishing the park. The amounts of big fish I've been on is nothing short of amazing. They are all over the park right now but I've been mainly targeting these fish in the skinny water, sightfishing with the fly rod or using jigs and soft plastics on spinning.

That's all for now. Come down and take advantage of the best time of the year to fish in the everglades and don't worry about the heat... pack lots of cold treats for your trip, drink a lot of water and use the right clothing and sunscreen. The hotter the weather, the better the fishing!!
