Flamingo Fishing

Capt. Jason Sullivan
January 28, 2013
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

The best part of fishing Everglades National Park is you just don't know for sure what will happen. Of course, we always have a plan for the day, but sometimes the fish can surprise you. That's the beauty of spending a day in the Glades. The mild winter that we have had in South Florida makes it feel like spring time, and that means there is one thing on my mind- TARPON.

While looking for giant silver one morning, we casted into a pod of rolling fish and were rewarded with a giant 18lb snook. That is definitely a trophy fish for the Everglades. We finished that day with a bunch of snook and put a few tarpon in the air.

The fishing out front of Flamingo has also been pretty consistent. When the wind isn't howling, we have fished the flats and had shots on some big redfish up to 32 inches in extremely shallow water.

I have also fished a few nights recently in downtown Miami. When the tide is favorable, the "after hours" fishing has been solid with us putting a bunch of fish in the air and bringing a few to the boat. I can't think of a better way to finish a day than watching a hooked tarpon come flying out of the water.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

Fishing is only going to get better with the warm weather we have been experiencing.
