As we move into the month of February it's time to get caught up with the inshore and offshore fishing in South Florida.
Let's start with the best first!
Flamingo in Everglades National Park continues to be the hot spot for me recently. Recently fishing in the Park produced snook to 9.5 pounds, redfish to 24 inches, and bluefish to four pounds, plenty of jacks, ladyfish, a small flounder and over two dozen sea trout to four pounds. All of this action took place with live shrimp fished under a Cajun Thunder float and with Hookup lures tipped with a Gulp shrimp during very wind conditions. My clients were two ladies in their 80's and 70's and they tore the fish up. Add to that action all the wildlife you will see in a day on the water and around the Park and it makes for an exciting South Florida day on the water. My 83 year old lady customer had a bottlenose dolphin eat a live bait right off her hook next to the boat. At the boat ramp a wild American crocodile was sunning itself on the asphalt at the marina.

Fishing in Miami continues to produce Spanish mackerel, bluefish, jacks, sea trout and a few nice groupers.

In South Florida our weather this time of the year can change with the drop of a hat and so it is with our fishing. One location may be only fair today but tomorrow can be a whole different story.
I am often asked when is the best time to fish? Normally I answer with "When you Can". From now till December everyday no matter what the weather is is the best time to fish. Miss a day during the Fall Migration and you may have missed the best fishing of your life!
All of these fish were caught using Key Largo spinning rods, Daiwa Advantage spinning reels, Okuma spinning reels, Shimano spinning reels and Stren and P-Line lines.
What are you waiting for? Pick up the phone and lets go catch some snook!
