Florida Bay Fall!

Capt. Joe Costadura
October 6, 2008
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's that time of year again when the sun starts to get softer look and a day on the water in florida Bay is just a little bit cooler (by Florida standards anyway!) Yes the Redfish are still out there and in very impressive numbers. No particular spot either as I've been doing well in almost all of the flats east of Flamingo as well as areas just to the west of Key Largo! Good Numbers of fish tailing up on the incoming tide and in good eating kind of mood and yes flies being my bait of choice, anything buggy with a hint of copper flash has been getting the job done for me and my anglers, and sometimes just a plain ole chartruese and white clouser works just as well! For other artificials almost everything you have in your soft plastic arsenal woll work well, although the darker colored shrimp cocktail made by saltwater assasin has been working very well for me! After hitting up the reds you might want to go after some bonefish action on some of the key island flats west of Key Largo and Islamorada. Some very nice sized schools are there and are willing to pounce on a well presented fly. Snapping shrimp and tan toads have been working well for me during the day and flies a bit buggier that push warer during low light conditions like at sun up or dusk. In a nutshell the fishing can be stellar on the right day and it's time to get out there while the winds are still somewhat pleasant. I'll be getting out in the flamingo area this Fri with an old friend and if the conditons hold I'd say I'll have a nice report to give next time, till then catch em up..............Capt. Joe!
