Full Moon, Low tides!

Capt. Jim Hobales
December 8, 2014
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I fished out of Everglades City with The Ben, Todd and Jake from Massachusetts On the ride over it was hard not to notice the full moon, the skies were clear and temps weren't to bad. I started out in one of my favorites areas just outside the Baron River only to find there was not enough water for us to get in. These guys like throwing lures but I had some excellent Shrimp which I had picked up the day before.

Generally this time of year Shrimp don't get passed up! The water was low and clear so I ran around hitting some deeper holes and to my surprise nothing was hitting but Ladyfish and Lizard fish. We worked hard all day shallow and deep and only spooked a couple fish shallow. I cut up a Ladyfish and cast a chunk under the mangroves and after 7 hours we got a Redfish, thought it might turn on but that was the only one there. I said I have one more spot on the way in, a creek at slack tide. We pitched a couple baits up into opening and we were talking when the line started to get stripped off the reel. Jake grabbed his reel and got tight on the big fish, I wasn't sure what it was by the way it was pulling. Big Red or Snook we were hooked up to something big. The Snook finally made a half assed jump letting us see it. Jake got it close and we used the Boga grip to land it. After a few pictures Jake released a 9 lb. Snook. we gave it a little bit longer but no more fish today.

The season is here, we have Tarpon on Miami Beach, Redfish, Snook, Trout, Black Drum down at Flamingo. The water temps are right for Gag Groupers in the rivers. These fish all go deep hole up and they are all hungry for Live Shrimp. If you are interested in a day of fun filled catching fish give me a call at 305 333 8149
