Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
I am with Eric his brother Leo and their friend Rastafa ( sorry for butchering the name) down at Flamingo. We got out early and found a lot of bird activity but there were no fish eating in the frenzy although we did catch 2 perfect sized mullet. We were throwing top water lures looking for a big Snook bite, we had several blow ups but no hooked fish. I received a call telling me there was a bite in Snake Bite channel but there were about 10 boats in there. When I fish with regular customers that have tried different things with me I give them a choice and Eric chose to run out west. We tried a couple spots and eventually ran across a big Tripletail. Eric has caught more Triple tails than any other customer of mine he spotted it, cast, hooked and got in the boat. He then probably ate it for dinner, it is one of the best eating fish out there. We moved on had some small and saw maybe a hundred Snook that were laid up and a few different schools. Again Eric hooked a monster of a Snook, the fish made a run at the boat shaking its heat violently throwing the Gulp Shrimp jig. We found a pod of bait Pilchards and Herring which blacked out the live well. We moved around mostly because the wind was crankin, so I ran to some protected spots inside Whitewater Bay. It paid off pretty good we got into a Redfish/Trout bite that was fast and furious but the no see ums were killing us. We stuck it outand I was glad when the bite stopped. I did something I haven't done in years since the freeze of 2010, I hit a Goliath Grouper spot. Its hard to explain to someone what going to happen when a goliath eats the bait, Rastafa who is here visiting from Mexico got to experience the power. We had a good laugh as the line popped and the rod almost hit his forehead. It was getting late and we still had some bait left, we threw out all the bait and turned on the Tarpon in Buttonwood canal. Of course Eric hooked a Tarpon but it jumped off. We called it shortly after that!
