Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

070215

I am fishing Flamingo today with Ross his wife Mindy and Daughter Reggie. Ross and Mindy make it down from Chicago a few time a year and we always have a good time. Mindy always has Lady Luck on her side! We started out in some pods of bait that we're getting blown out of the water by Tarpon, Jack and Ladyfish. There was allot of action but the were focused in on the bait pods. we stayed as long as there was enough water with no bites at all. We ran out to a bait spot and found some giant Horse Pilchards which have not been around lately. We ran out to the coast and found plenty of Tarpon free jumping, so we set up a drift. the little Shark moved in on us and ate our baits before the Tarpon had a chance. we got boxed in by storms and had to make a move.

Having such great bait allowed me to fish areas where I know big fish live, we set up and it didn't t take long. Reggie's rod was being stripped of line so I talked her thru the hook set. This is easy because we are using circle hooks, she did excellent picked up the rod pointed and started to wind. This was a good practice fish, it ended up being a 4 lb. Jack but now she was trained. This would come in to play with Reggie hooking a big Redfish next, she hooked and fought this fish like a pro. We saw the school of Redfish come thru but didn't realize how big they were. The fish was really pulling drag and circled the boat a couple times. Reggie worked the fish up to the boat and that's when I realized it was really big, I boated the fish and took some great pictures of the monster Redfish.

Ross was next up and his fish was running like a Shark until it jumped! This was a pretty big fish as well and it pulled drag and dragged him around the boat also. There was allot of pressure to land this fish it was his Snook biggest ever and he has cough plenty of them with me.

I'm with Tim from Portland and Dave from England today Flamingo, I ran back to the area where the fish were blowing up a couple days ago. They were active again today but I was able to net some bait quickly. I said let's go I have a spot for these Pilchards. It didn't take long Dave's cork went down almost immediately, he had a 22 inch Snook his first. Dave had never caught anything before. We put out another bait and Dave is hooked up again. This fish got him into a stump we worked over to the stump and the fish took off. We landed the 24 inch Redfish as we were landing Dave's fish Tim hooked a Redfish, his first.

We moved around and threw lures most of the day but eventually went back to the live bait. We set up and put out some baits and it didn't take to long Dave had a big fish pulling drag. The fish pulled him around the boat and really fought hard. We got it boat side it was a big over slot Redfish. We took some photos and let it go and Dave was hooked up again, this one was a little smaller but fought hard. We had numerous Sharks, Jacks and even a big Sting Ray wear these guys out. It was 12:30 and e called it a day they had some 4th of July obligations. Great day always fun to put guys on first fish.

Fishing has been good and will get better with the summer rains, whenever they start.
