Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I had a great week last week fished with some great people and their families from Haulover Inlet to Flamingo. he full moon made some of the fish more finicky than others and it was different day to day. The Tarpon are around in good numbers although they did not eat for me in 3 trips to Flamingo this past week. One of the best eating and more fun fish to catch is the Tripletail. They have been out on the crab trap buoys in big numbers. The fun fishing for Trout is real good and we have put some Snook and Redfish in the boat as well.

I am at fishing Flamingo today with Ross and Mindy, they usually come down alone but today they brought their daughters Reggie and Roxy. I like having Mindy on the boat because she is just plain lucky!
The great thing is she has past it on to her daughters they are good anglers and pretty lucky also. It didn't take long and Roxy caught the first fish of the day a 22" Redfish Then Reggie caught a Jack. The day was non stop fish of different species, next stop there were Trout, Jacks, ladyfish and of course the Tarpon were there. We made cast after cast at Tarpon with different lures and had nothing but refusals.
We moved on and head out to the Gulf for Triple tails, got into a few pretty quick and the girls caught them. We ran out and fish some god bottom looking for a Cobia! There was a boat fishing their already and he said he already had a few fish hooked up only to loose the to the Bull Sharks. We put out some baits and took are chances and it didn't take long before the rods started to double over. We had a couple of bites where the fish ate and ran at the boat and came off could of been Cobia but who knows, this happened several times. We eventually had a fish stay on and Roxy landed a 50 lb. Reef Shark Reggie was next and did the same. That's when I saw the Permit floating on the surface got a Shrimp rigged and cast it out in front but no luck. We had a second Permit shot when a school came up and we got close Ross made the cast. They went down and came back right under the boat spooking themselves silly. We ran back in to catch the incoming tide and we did pretty good the girls caught a 28 inch Redfish and a 26 inch Snook. We hit a couple more spot and got some big Shark and another good Snook. Ross come from Chicago to fish so we do long days and we all were feeling it. It was a great day with great people!

I am with James and Andy today, we started out throwing top waters in the Mullet muds looking for a big bite on the falling tide. We had 3 hit and the only fish that held on was a 5 lb. Jack. We moved on and found some Tarpon to cast at. They weren't all that thick today but the tide was falling hard and I was hoping the would bite. We fished them for over an hour and only saw 1 boat hook up. we did catch some Trout while casting at them. We headed towards the coast and fished the Gulf of Mexico, we caught 30 or so Trout and caught a few small Ladyfish for Tarpon bait later. We ran the Markers all the way to Shark River and with no exaggeration we casted to at least 40 Tripletails up to 8 lbs. This was allot of fun for these guys but we were looking for something big. We netted some Pilchards and went chumming the creeks, while chumming Tarpon showed up pretty good. We used every bait and lure and the just swam by, I believe this is where that full moon comes into play. They just didn't eat. We chummed 3 or 4 spots and never got anything up it was late so we headed in.

I am with James and Andy again today but we launched the boat in the back country side. I made a long 35 mile run looking for something different and we found it. I had a little help this morning with my lure choice. I ran into Rick Murphy and he said try these lures so I did. Every time he has given me a lure to try it has always paid off big! I rigged them up just in case. Andy likes throwing a jig with a Gulp Shrimp and it paid off with several Redfish and Snook. I picked up the "new lure" and made a cast and immediately got hooked up to a Snook. I landed the Snook and now James and Andy wanted the "new lure". This was the start of a bunch of Snook being caught today. Things got better because the Tarpon showed up all around us. We cast at them until we couldn't cast any more, put out a live bait and not one swirl . This has allot to do with that giant Moon the last couple nights. We moved around and tried other areas working the same type of structure we found the Snook on. It paid off on every spot using this "new lure" . We pulled into a cove and the guys sat down to eat lunch, I noticed a wake coming down the shoreline a cast at it and we are on. I passed the rod to James and the giant Snook came out of the water it was every bit of 20 lb.'s. The monster Snook came to the boat really quick, I reached down and grabbed him and stuck the Boga grip in his mouth. I went to lock it in and he shook his head and jumped
throwing the lure. Very disappointing but Andy got it on video. The tide started to moved really good and the Snook turned on. I had them throwing into a pocket and we had 4 giant Snook hits and one Redfish. I said its time to go catch a Trout to finish off their Slams. We caught a handful of Trout and I said one more spot before we go, we had big Trout and big Jacks and called it a day! Thanks to Rick Murphy he's never gave me a lure that didn't work and this one is special!
