N.E. winds, Bait and Tarpon

Capt. Jim Hobales
October 14, 2013
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

091213

I fish out of N. Miami Beach today with Dave and his son David from Houston, Texas. I netted a few mullet and ran outside the inlet looking for Tarpon. We found a couple mullet schools and watched as they got blasted by some big Tarpon. We caught a few Jacks as we waited for a Tarpon bite.

We soaked mullet and I'm guessing we had some slack in the line and missed a bite because when we reeled in the mullet it had been hit and scaled.

We went and netted some pilchards and went fishing the sea walls for big Jacks and what ever else comes up into the live chum. We caught a bunch of Jacks, a 15" Snapper and a 27 " Snook. I got a phone call telling me about a bite just off the beach so we made a run for it. We got there and the Mackerels were blasting Pilchards we caught one pretty quick and then some Snappers and Yellowtail. The bite was over so I ran into Government Cut where we dropped on some rolling Tarpon only to catch a big Jack and a 18 " Mangrove Snapper. It was Columbus Day weekend and the boat traffic was getting bad so we headed back to the ramp.

If you never tried the mullet run give me a call at 305 333 8149, its blast.

Capt. Jimbo
