Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I am fishing with father Carlos and son Albert which are part of a 5 boat charter from Pace high School. Either one had much angling experience so once I explained a few simple tips we were on our way to putting big numbers in the boat.
We started out quickly putting Small Redfish in the boat and it stayed that way all day. We had a short day so running far wasn't in the cards but I didn't need to. The Redfish bite was strong all day catching 20 and missing a bunch. We also caught 20 Trout and loads of Jacks and Ladyfish. They were very happy and had a lot of fun plus a Redfish dinner.

I am fishing the N. Miami Beach area with Paul Maida and his dad John, we got out early and netted a livewell full of pilchards. We covered a lot of water today and kept the rods bent most of the day with medium sized Jacks, Trout and Cudas. We chummed up some Snook and Tarpon but couldn't get thru the Jacks and Ladyfish until I rigged a finger mullet. Paul let it run back thru the bridge and it got pick up and was off to the races unfortunately it caught a piling and was gone. The conditions were very tough with winds blowing @ 25 mph again today.

I am fishing Flamingo today with Paul and his young son Jorgy, they are from Moscow Russia. I have fished with Paul a few times now, usually with his friends this time his son. Jorgy @ 8 years old was a pleasant suprise, he could really fish! I fish with alot of people and casting skills vary, this kid was an 8 on a 10 scale. We started out in Snake bite fishing the protected side of the channel it is very windy again with super negative low tides, this means very little water anywhere. We caught 20 or so Trout up to 3 lbs. Ladyfish, Jacks and missed several Reds by 9 A.M., they wanted Sharks and Barracudas. I tried to run south down to 9 Mile Bank but there was a boat stuck in the channel, so I ran to Sandy Key. We caught a lot of fish out Trout, Jacks, Ladyfish and Snappers there but they were small.
We ran to East Cape Canal and anchored up looking for Sharks but found a Tarpon busting mullet. I didn't have mullet so I used the next best thing a live Ladyfish. We had 3 different Tarpon swirl and miss our baits until we finally had a monster eat and break us off. I rigged another bait and tried for a Shark but got cut off again using a wire leader. I ran to another spot on the way back and we finally got Paul a 50 lb. Spinner Shark which jumped 3 times on initial run. We got it up next to the boat for pictures and called it a day.

I am fishing Flamingo with Brad his grandson John and his girlfriend Rachel today. I launched on the back country side because the wind was forecasted to blow 25 mph. It was nice on the ride out, we stopped at my first spot and caught a Redfish, Trout right off the bat. I looked up and the sky was black and closing in fast, I got raincoats out and ran for the tallest shoreline for protection! We sat there for 5 minutes and it was gone so we ran to the next spot, and it didn't take long. Brad was first to hook up and caught a keeper Redfish, then John caught one. They caught fish for about an hour straight until we got chased off by rain again. I ran to another spot and this is where we got busy, I told them Redfish on the left and Trout on right! They thought I was joking until the caught 50 or so fish, a Snook, handful of Redfish and alot of 20 inch Trout. John wanted a big Shark I said lets go out to the coast, we had an incoming tide but very little in the way of Sharks. I anchored up and out of the 25 mph North wind and just worked shore lines. Most of the morning there was cloud cover which kept it cool, the sun finally came out and we had 4 awesome bite.
The first was a big Redfish which came off at the boat (at least we got to see it). The 2nd was a 15 lb Snook which fought really hard then let go, we thru right back into the same spot and had a fish pull drag for 30 feet then let go. The last bite was a big Shark which just ran until Brad was almost out of line cutting him off. I hate loosing quality fish!
On the way in a stopped at a community spot and let them wear themselves out on 3-5 lb Jacks then called it a day.
Forecast
The Tarpon are in unfortunately I haven't been able to get them on the beaches yet. 25 mph winds have been constant but the weekend should start to calm down.The Redfishing has been excellent down at Flamingo along with the Trout. The Government Cut bite will be very good thru June, Tarpon, Snook, Permit and of course Snappers. See video below of my show on Sportsman's adventures.
