South Florida Report - Flamingo, Biscayne Bay & Miami

Capt. Jim Hobales
November 25, 2007
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

112307

Today I am fishing with Heather and Tom from Houston,Texas in Whitewater Bay. The full moon tides were extreme so I decided to give the back country a try. We started out on some small Tarpon but they were unwilling to eat their lures. We moved on to the next spot and Heather caugh a small Redfish and Tom caught a very nice 23" Trout. I noticed an explosion and told them this could be our lucky day, I think I saw a Tarpon. I motored to the area and watched as several more exploded and others just rolled. The blood was pumping now. The pair of anglers cast and cast for an hour with out any Tarpon bites so we moved on. The tides weren't so strong in the back country and it really effected the fishing. I went from spot to spot and the Snook wouldn't respond. The Jacks, Ladyfish Trout, and Mangrove Snappers were eating and keeping us busy but Tom wanted a Snook or Tarpon. I made a couple last stops and all Tom caught was a Redfish but we did noticed some more Tarpon!

We ended the day casting at obviously feeding Tarpon but they were always just out of range or just refusing our lures.

I fishing with longtime friend John and his brother in law Billy from Seattle. I did not make the same mistake again, today we are in Fl. Bay and it didn't take long for the Snook to let us know they were interested. Billy had a small Snook and then John caught a 29" fish and then it just got silly for the next 3 hours. Billy had an a great explosion which turned into a 31" Snook. We were fishing a series of potholes and the fish seemed to be here today, the Redfish were responding as well. We fished slow and covered a lot of water casting at mudding Sting Rays and Mullet schools as well. The day ended with over 20 Snook, 8 Redfish and a couple nice Jacks. John looked at his watch and said "I have had enough let's go". What a difference a day makes!
