Flamingo - Everglades National Park

Capt. Ariel Cabrera
January 2, 2003
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Great Beginnings

Fishing remains excellent in this part of the Everglades. We have been catching sheepshead up to four pounds along with black drum. The redfish have also been responding well as a few snook. Mike Flowers caught and released an eight-pounder on a plastic jig. His partner, Mike, caught 4 redfish, trout, sheepshead. Special thanks to Mike for allowing me to keep a few fresh fillets. I gave these to my charter party (Keith and Kelly

)that were camping at Flamingo. They made fish burritos!

On a different day Keith Maruya fish with me and caught some giant Flamingo sheepshead pushing five pounds, black drum, and trout. Kelly, his girlfriend cuaght a few small jewfish, drum, and sheepshead as well. The cold weather shut down the tarpon and snook bite this day.

As for the next couple of days I'll be on the hunt for giant tarpon. Release a fish for tomorrow.
