Flamingo - Everglades National Park

Capt. Ariel Cabrera
August 18, 2003
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Snook hors d’oeuvres coming up soon Sept. 1

The anticipation of snook opening day is awesome! At this writing the snook fishing is very good and it should continue this way. Snook can be caught on just about anything right now. Trout fishing remains fair, at best, in the early morning. And the red fishing is so-so but expected to increasingly improve between now and December. Tarpon fishing has been just like the snook action-hot! Get them early.

Highlights of Park trips include a day with Ray Sr. and Junior (7 years old). They caught snook, trout, snapper, and a pair of large sheepshead. A ten foot bull shark attempted to swallow these live. This same shark also slammed my electric trolling motor-that’s no joke. Later I found myself with former pro ball player Joe Digraziano once again. He caught trout, snapper, and a goliath grouper not on bait but on a plastic DOA shrimp. We also hooked a tarpon that freed itself on its first leap.

Biscayne Bay is thriving with permit. I was out there during some bad weather and there were a few schools of fish. The small tarpon are still available. On a different trip we connected with a twelve pound crevalle. Sharks and snapper are a sure thing.

Check out the Zip Lure infomercial on OLN network closely for a few shots of Capt. Ariel reeling in the big ones. Call ahead to reserve dates for your next outing.

Catch you later,

Capt. Ariel
