Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
Make Summer Fishing Plans Early or Late
Fishing in the Everglades National Park continues to improve just as the weather has. W have experienced an improvement in snook fishing, they are active due to the water temps. Trout have been responding better during the early part of the morning. Mangrove snapper are literally everywhere but especially in the Shark River area and the deep basins in Florida Bay. A few tripletail have moved in but only those who start working for them early seem to succeed. Once the wind picks up they become more difficult to spot.
Be sure to check out the next issue of South Florida Sport Fishing Magazine as it will contain valuable tripletail info. Based on research-no fish stories here. If you’d like to hear some fish stories visit West Marine:
WEST MARINE, Pinecrest, Fl. 11735 South Dixie Highway will feature Captain Ariel Cabrera for a FREE Flamingo snook fishing seminar on June 17th from 7:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The seminar topics will cover everything from fly and bait selection to specific techniques involved in catching snook from world famous waters of Everglades National Park..
Catch reports include: Joe Digraziano’s 17.5” mangrove snapper on a Skitter Walk. Albert and Juan’s 4 mackerel, trout, mangroves, and gags all on plastics. Nicole Dennison helped land an 8# snook. on her first outing with me this season. Our next day was even better- she put 30 gag grouper in the boat, one Goliath, two mackerel, and dozens of snapper. She was once again beat by another monster goliath. But that only gives her sister, Karen, a chance against this fish. She will be visiting in August.
Next few trips will focus on tarpon, redfish, and more snook!
Tip of the month: get out at safe light; stay hydrated by wearing cool clothing and drinking plenty of fluids.
Capt. Ariel
