Flamingo - Everglades National Park

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

FANTASTIC FALL FISHING

Fall fishing is finally here. Many angler have been awaiting this time of the year when bait begins to concentrate on favorite fishing grounds. Schools of fish start to school up as well to forage on these baits making sight fishing very exciting. Starting the day by cruising for dimples on the water’s surface or any clue that offers that telltale sign that bait or big fish are around. Splashes on top may mean that predators are lurking below so have that topwater bait ready. Follow up with a jig. Then go ahead and take out the castnet, if using live bait is your perrogative.

Expect to move around a bit to find fish. Always keep a look out for birds whether they are wading or diving as they are fishing too. Approach the wading flats carefully and quietly however; the high flying birds usually don’t mind if you get close. And, there are usually feeding schools of jacks, permit, mackerel, and others. Watch out closely for these signs.

Flamingo continues to have a strong snook and redfish bite. From the flats to the rivers action has been good during early morning cool water. Take a good reading of water temperatures. Once it begins to cool down the bite should remain steady throughout, otherwise best bets are still early morning. Get out there and try you’ll never know what you may catch. Tony Muina landed a surprise permit of 15 pounds while snookin’. His guest took a jumbo redfish and over seven goliath groupers while working some patchy weedy shoreline.

Keep your boat shipshape by inspecting your boat batteries. The heat drains them. Use your boats voltmeter or a multi-meter to get readings. Make sure to keep them strapped and secured in battery boxes with insulating boots. Keep them charged.
