Everglades National Park - Flamingo

Capt. Bob LeMay

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week the night-time baby tarpon have been biting every night that we've gone after them. On Friday and Saturday nights we caught and released them on flies, lures, and bait. Most nights, though, the fish have done a lot of the releasing themselves. We've only seen one other boat after the fish so each night most of the bridges have been ours for the choosing. For some reason the fish we've stuck have been supercharged. Although most are under 30lbs they've fought like they were quite a bit larger. One actually knocked the pushpole loose while trying to jump in the boat just after the strike.

Night fishing is a lot more comfortable for the angler as well. Most nights the thunderstorms have passed leaving very nice conditions for running and fishing. The hot baby tarpon action should last until almost the middle of August.
