Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
I have been using Fishbites molded baits for redfish and trout on the flats of Flamingo with great results.
In Florida Bay the mangrove snapper bite is also getting better as we have caught some "bycatch" in some of the large potholes in between redfish flats.
On the deeper grassflats Bett's rattling corks have been really effective with a DOA bait floating beneath or a Bass Assassin swimbait. There are still some black drum and sheepshead available in deeper water but the plan is to sight fish as we have gotten further away from our winter fishery.
Flamingo Fishing Forecast:
Fishing has been getting better all along the coast from Miami's Biscayne Bay to Whitewater Bay. Thankfully the weather has been cooperating. We went from a long, cold winter with high winds to summer-like patterns recently. Nightime tarpon fishing has been worth the shot at most inlets, bridges, and canals. Daytime fishing has been real good for seatrout and on the right days bonefish and redfish. I worked at the Miami Billfish Tournament again this year right by the weigh in area and saw all of the kingfish and bonito and dolphin brought in. There was reportedly a decent amount of sailfish caught too. Catching is definitely on the rise.
Some of the anglers that have learned some fishing experience aboard my charters have been Craig Culbertson and family, Pete and Esteban Wood. We have also been a little busy with group trips involving multiple guide boats. I would like to thank Paul and Pam Thieburger for visiting again. More importantly, thanks to all my friends, family, and sponsors that support my serious fishing addiction.
Approaching summer will see good action with bonefish, tarpon, shark, and more. I will be offering some special rates, stay tuned. Check your boat batteries, change your spark plugs and fuel/water separators for better efficiency and reliability, and verify all your pumps are working for summertime. I would also check all your trailer hubs and bearings, lights, and springs and axles to ensure smooth operation.
