Florida Tarpon Fishing
Great Tarpon fishing here in South Florida

Warm weather has really brought in the big Tarpon to most of the usual hangouts in the backcountry. For the past ten days it has been hot with air temps in the mid 80s, with water temps warming up and making the big Tarpon go nuts. Last Monday we jumped at least seven but did not bring any to the boat, most broke off or just had bad luck as they spit the hook. They are here in big numbers either laid up just under the surface or in small pods feeding on Lady Fish. This is a great time for fly fisherman or throwing Rapala Subwalks to them. If it stays warm it will be good to excellent fishing for them.
On the flats in Everglades National Park Redfish up to 12 pounds has been the ticket. I have been finding good schools for sight fishing after the morning Tarpon fishing has concluded. When the wind has been blowing in the afternoons and sight fishing for the Reds has stopped we have been again averaging over 40 of them per day hanging under trees with good current flow. Average rod bending Redfish are about 4 pounds. This week we landed a bunch of small Snook averaging 22 inches in the creeks to the west of Flamingo as well. The Reds and Snook have been eating live shrimp on jigs. Yesterday on the 12th Merrie and Mike Hart of California fish with me on a cold rainy and windy day and still managed to catch over 40 Redfish and Sheephead in a four hour trip. All in all the action has been excellent when the weather has been good or bad.

Best of Luck
