Windy days but catching fish!

Capt. Jim Hobales
March 31, 2014
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

March 18 thru 28

The days the winds down and no fronts pushing thru there have been plenty of Tarpon around. The problem for me has been my days on the water have been on the windiest days lately . I have fished in winds from 20 gusting to 40 and managed fish on every occasion. These are highly stressful days for me, I just want the customers to enjoy themselves and catch fish. The most common thing I have heard lately is, its not below zero and snowing so we can do it! Whitewater Bay has been productive with Redfish, Snook and Trout, unfortunately I haven't been able to catch all 3 on the same day in the last couple weeks. This is the season for fishing the coast but with the fronts pushing thru the days have been limited out there. I have had some excellent anglers as of late which had to work long and hard to catch whatever the day gave up.

I had a couple trips with kids this week and of course the key thing is to keep rods bent no matter the species. Mark was in from Chicago with his boys Sammy (9) and Benny(7), we fished S. Biscayne Bay. We left the dock and it was storming all to the north of us, we went out netted bait and went fishing. I ran over to Stiltsville and started chumming with Pilchards, it started out slow but we managed a few Cuda's . We ran around and tried to stay in front of the storms we ended but eventually it caught up to us and skirted us. We ran up and hid under the bridges and live chummed, the Jacks and Bluefish responded in force. I kept the kids rods bent for 2 hours and there were happy. We got a break in the weather and made a run south. We continued the chumming and caught more Cuda's, Snappers, Jacks, Trout and a Black Grouper. This was good considering we fished in 25-35 mph winds all days

This is the way it's been for the last 2 weeks, it hasn't been easy. Thanks to my customers for showing up fishing and having a good time. The conditions will improve the next week or so and so will the fishing. If catching fish is what you like to do give me a call at 305 333 8149.
