Action Action Action In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
July 17, 2024
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week in Fort Lauderdale the fishing has been pretty steady lots of action and plenty of fish species to catch so we will start this report off on the inshore side of things with plenty of action just like the title says. The bonito are in full force right now and they are hungry! Its that time of year when the bonito have made there way down to Fort Lauderdale and are eating everything in there path, bonito are a very important part of charter boat fishing. Bonito is not very good to eat but where they lack in edibility the are great fighters and make great bait for a variety of species. Bonito are used daily for trolling baits, bottom fishing baits, and even shark baits, without fresh bonito you cant catch all the other species of fish. Besides bonito on the reef there has been a few nice sized kingfish and a few blackfin tunas around, I would say its hard to target the other species specifically right now because there has been so many bonitos around it seems to be more of a luck thing. This week we did get very lucky and catch a trophy wahoo that was 67 inches in length and around the 70lbs mark (Pictured). Big wahoos like this are always mixed in with the bonitos and tunas because thats what they eat, skill is great but every now and again everyone needs some luck. Besides trolling there has been a pretty solid bite of vermillion snappers on some of the bottom spots in depths around 300 feet. The vermillion snappers have been averaging around 2-3lbs. Last but not least there has been some big game sharks biting in the deep, shark fishing is a great way to pull on something big although all the sharks we do catch are protected and you must release, if your looking for a fight they will definitely give it to you. We have been doing very well on the sharks fishing a large bait on the bottom like a fresh bonito or kingfish, we have been catching mostly sandbar sharks but there has been some hammerhead sharks in the mix as well. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches we have had while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Fishing should remain steady for the rest of July, the mahi mahi action has went a little quiet right now but looking back in previous years it should begin to heat up as we get ready to approach the month of august so be on the look out for that in future reports, we do have availability for the rest of July and August so if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you and show you a great time on the water. more later....
