Afternoon kingfish bite

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
December 15, 2016
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This afternoon we had some of the nicest weather I have seen in a while, light sound wind less than 5 mph seas calm, and slightly overcast. We had 2 gentlemen from the Fort Lauderdale area this afternoon, Jeff Berg which is the owner of Pinmar marine, and his co worker. Leaving the dock we headed to Fort Lauderdale marina for some last minute beverages and headed on our way, making our way to the whistle bouy which is located in 120 feet of water just 1 mile from shore, we put lines in. Fishing a full spread of 7 lines 5 surface baits and 2 planners down the two anglers where very excited to see what would happen.
The first hour was very slow with hardly any action and everyone was starting to get skeptical, but right as we were talking about not getting any bites one of the deep planners goes off and we land a nice king mackerel, we continued trolling the reef for the next hour with very slow conditions, then we ventured offshore looking for tuna or dolphin. The ocean being super calm almost seemed dead with hardly any signs of life, with the time closing in I made the decision as the captain to go back inshore and troll the reef again, we worked the reef hard trolling from shallow to deep, shallow to deep, and starting getting a few bites we had caught another kingfish in no time, we where working the area very hard and it almost seemed as if we made the fish bite. Almost every pass in the area we were trolling we where getting bite after bite, the anglers were filled with joy to be catching fish after fish and we were happy to see there patience, the best thing about fishing is that you never know what is going to happen, it could be super slow and then all the sudden madness, it could be steady bites or none at all, but you will never know unless you go out there and try. With time closing in we headed back to the dock we caught a total of seven king fish released one because it was too small the anglers were super happy and can't wait to plan another trip aboard the YB Normal!
