Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This afternoon we had great clients from the New Hampshire area, I was very skeptical of the weather this afternoon winds were sustained 15-20mph with gusts to 25mph, we have a cold front approaching which will bring cooler weather to south Florida.
We left the dock and headed out to the whistle bouy which is located 1 mile of shore and is in about 100 feet of water, this is where we tend to start our fishing at. Running a slightly different spread then normal with a few less surface baits due to the windy conditions we began trolling the reef with 4 surface baits and 2 planners down, right off the bat we had a nice bite on the long surface bait, after a short battle we got the fish boat side and gaffes him. It was a nice bonito fish, the bonito fish does not have great food value but is a excellent fighter and is very good bait for other gamefish, continuing trolling down the reef we were able to land a small king mackerel on one of our planner or down baits.
After trolling the reef and catching many bonito we saw some local bird activity offshore, in the 300-400 foot of water area, finding birds offshore flying close to the surface of the water is a great way to indicate there being fish nearby. We followed the feeding birds catching nice size blackfins tuna, which are excellent table fare, weather grilled on eating raw as sashimi or sushi, we caught a total of 10 blackfin tuna a few of them were close to 10lbs in weight. We kept picking at the tuna until time was closing in and it would be time to head back to the dock, everyone was very happy with today's catch and told us they would be back another day to have another great charter experience aboard the YB Normal.
