Amberjack fishing in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today on the YB Normal we had some repeat customers from fort lauderdale, Frank and his son, they have chartered us many times in the past but today they wanted to try some wreck fishing for amberjack, off of fort lauderdale beach there are many sunken ship wrecks right off the coast any where from the depths of 60 feet of water out to 400 feet, most of your bigger fish are going to be in the deeper ship wrecks.
While wreck fishing you can catch a wide variety of game fish from grouer, snapper, amberjacks, and even cobia but the list goes on. We left the dock around 8am sharp and headed out to the whistle bouy out of port everglades in fort lauderdale to get some live bait, we were looking for live blue runners these are a hardy baitfish and work well, after about 20 min we had caught about 12 baits so we put them in the live well and headed to a deep ship wreck in around 300 feet of water, for wreck fishing we use very heavy tackle usually a 50 size reel and heavy line around 100lb test, we pulled up to the wreck and i rigged the bait up with a circle hook and we dropped it down after it hits bottom we like to reel the bait up around 30 feet off of bottom so you dont get stuck in the wreck or the bottom, it didnt take long and we had gotten a bite and it was a good fish amberjack are know for there hard fighting abilities and stamina
after a 30 min battle franks son had landed a very respectable size fish around 40lbs we took some pictures and released him, then we decided to troll around with some planners down catching kingmackeral and bonitos, we then headed to another wreck and decided to drop a live bait and it was franks turn to be on the rod, same deal as the other sipweck we rigged up the bait and dropped him to the bottom this time the wreck we were fishing was in 240 feet of water and the bite was very quick frank struggled to reel the fish up but after 30 min he landed the fish this was a huge amberjack close to 50lbs or so what a great fish, we took some pictures and let him go to fight for another day. After we headed towards the dock with smiles on everyones face and another great fishing charter in the books for the YB Normal.

If your ever in fort lauderdale and looking for a deep sea fishng chater check out the YB Normal
