Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today we had 2 customers aboard the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale, Mike and Mike. 2 guys with the same name kind of unusual but hey YB normal right. So we departed from the dock at 8am sharp and began trolling with 2 planners down and bonito strips we trolled anywhere from 100 feet out to 300 feet of water looking for any type of gamefish from tuna to dolphin and kingfish to. We managed to hook up after about 30 min of trolling with a nice sized king mackeral, we kept trolling for another hour or so catching some bonito which are a great game fish and fight very hard although there table fair is not the greatest, they have good bait qualities. We soon decided to head offshore because mike and mike wanted some eating fish so we went to try and deep drop for tilefish which are some of the best eatting fish around. We had seen a nice weed line on our way out to the deep where we managed to catch a nice sized dolphin or mahi, a great eating fish and both mikes had smiles, once reaching our destination for tilefish we began to drop as I explained how to use the electric reel once we hit bottom we got a bite immediately and we began to bring it up, while bring it up we had a giant fish chase our tilefish up from the deep which was around 9 foot or so weighing around 350lbs, we were able to hook this fish with using half of the bonito we had caught the fish fought very hard giving mike a 2 hour battle on 100lb tackle, the fish ended up being a dusky shark which is somewhat rare for these waters. all in all mike and mike had experience something amazing and had a great time aboard the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale, next time you in town be sure to look us up for a great fishing experience
