Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello there, Capt. Vinnie here and back with another great deep sea fishing report. This week we had some very nice weather earlier in the week and as we approached the weekend the winds and seas picked up, fishing this week started out great catching a few sailfish just on the edge of the reef. There has been a few days where the sailfish have shown in some numbers which is great news for the winter to come. We are still catching all sailfish trolling right now, our live bait season is just around the corner though. So stay tunned for that in future reports. On the reef other then sailfish there has been a very good bite of kingfish and some nice ones at that, the most important thing right now is to be using mullet strips while trolling and the reason why I say this is because right now we are having the mullet run and there are big schools of these bait fish coming down our beaches as well as offshore bait balls and a lot of the predator fish are capitalizing on these baits, so it only makes sense to use exactly what there eating, match the hatch is what we call it. The kingfish have been biting best over the shallow shipwrecks and bottom structure around 100-130 feet of water and the average size has been 10-12lbs with a few bigger ones mixed in. One species that has been hot as well this week and specially on the days that the wind has been up is mahi mahi. The fall season in my opinion is the best time for mahi fishing in the Fort Lauderdale area and the size of them is a lot bigger then our summer season. On windy days the mahi have been in as shallow as 50 feet chasing live ballyhoo, the key is to look for birds diving and seeing the ballyhoo shower on top of the water while there getting chased. There has also been a few mahi offshore when the outgoing tide meets the gulfstream waters causing a tide line or current edge, trolling down these current edges is going to produce great results specially early in the mornings. Average size of the mahi right now has been 10lbs. Last but not least this week we did see some blackfin tuna action in depths around 300 feet. Smaller baits fished below the surface like spoons have been a good choice to get bites but your going to sacrifice quality for quantity fishing smaller baits, but if your looking for bigger tuna its better to fish bigger baits at faster speeds, which also could open up an opportunity for wahoo as well. The tuna bite has been best early in the morning from sunrise to around 830am. This week please take a second to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale, and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram at Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Coming up for this week and next we have plenty of availability for deep sea fishing charters, the pictures of our recent catches speak for themselves. Fishing is great right now and should remain that way for quite some time. If your thinking about coming down to Fort Lauderdale for a weekend get a way or even vacation and thinking about fishing, now is the time!
