It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Sailfish This Christmas

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We've had an exceptional week of fishing this past week off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. The sailfish are snapping and some other big fish are too. This is one of the best months of sailfish season in Fort Lauderdale and it's the best one we've had in several years. The sailfish are biting great! Our charters specifically target and specialize in big game fish such as sailfish, swordfish and sharks. While the overwhelming majority of our shark fishing action happens in the Spring and Summer months, winter is sailfish season. This is the time of year anglers from all around the world come to south Florida to take part in our awesome sailfish migration down our coastline. Fort Lauderdale is the only place in the world where you can snap a picture of sailfish with a condominium in the background. That's how close to shore we catch sailfish, right off the beach.

Swordfishing trips are good this time of year too. While a swordfishing charter isn't the best trip for catching action or numbers of fish, you can potentially catch the largest fish of your life. We had a swordfish trip a few nights ago and caught the biggest bull dolphin I think we have ever caught. It was well over 80 pounds. We catch them in the 40s and 50s in a blue moon (every great once in a while), but dolphin over 50 pounds are extremely rare. While our target was to catch a swordfish that night, this monster bull dolphin was a very agreeable alternative. We did pull the hooks on a big fish early in the evening that I think was a big swordfish. There are some monster fish out there and my favorite month of the year for swordfishing charters is coming up... JANUARY! January is traditionally when the biggest of the biggest swordfish come through our waters. I like daytime or night time in January and any calm night where it is 3ft seas or less is a great night to go. Daytime we can fish in just about any conditions but you only want to go at night if the weather is nice.

The big fish are biting this month, the only requirement is to go out there and fish for them. Then it's just a matter of luck and the skill of the captain to put you on the fish. We've been fishing Ft Lauderdale for over 47 years so give us a call and let us take you out and put you on the big ones. To everyone fishing this week and next... Tight Lines,
