Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing with Brian and the one that got away
February 28th, 2013
Here we are on the last day of the shortest month and WOW what a way to end February.
We fished with Brain from New York and from the second Brian got on board we knew this guy wanted to catch a SEA MONSTER!!
Ok so we started out catching some small bonitos and a kingfish for bait.
Once we had all the bait we needed we went right out to 350 feet of water and set out all the baits and now the trap was set.
We waited and waited till at last BAM one of the big shark rods bent over and line started screaming off the reel.
Brain wasted no time getting in the chair and the fight was on.
After what seemed forever Brain finally had his shark getting closer and closer to the boat. We got the leader just out of reach when the shark made one more run and RATS got off ^&^$&%%&!!
Wells that's fishing BUT we did manage to get 1 quick picture from the bridge before he got away.

Sharks Are Biting off the coast of Fort Lauderdale
February 23rd, 2013
Today we fished with John from South Carolina and Travis from Alabama.
We picked up some live bait at the live bait boat and went right out to 350 feet of water.
We set out our kites with 3 live baits suspended from them along with one big shark bait also suspended from the kites.
We also set a shark bait down about 150 feet and last but not least anther shark bait on the bottom.
Ok the trap was set and now all we needed was for some big sea monster to come along and take a bite.
And BAM that's just what happen and this morning not only did we catch a silky shark but we also caught a nice 5 foot plus hammerhead shark.
As we got back to the dock we had Jim along with his son Jim from Pennsylvania ready and eager to give it a shot.
Once again we went right to kite fishing even though we were losing our wind but not before BAM we got Hooked Up with this Monster sailfish.
And after a good 15 to 20 min battle we finally got Jim's big sail to the boat.
Thanks again to all of our anglers for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

What a BLAST today fishing Off the coast of Ft Lauderdale
February 21st, 2013
Today we fished with Glen and Mary from Sandwich M.A. along with Sandy and Virginia from Philadelphia P.A.
Today we went right to trolling with 2-planner boards running about 45 feet down and 3 baits skipping across the surface.
As it turned out trolling was the right move today because while fishing was slow and we did not hear of many fish being caught by the other boats we ended up with 2 Mahia Mahia and one monster barracuda.
Sandy wanted us to make this VERY CLEAR her Mahia Mahia was bigger than Virginias. (LOL)

However I got to throw in that Mary's Barracuda was even bigger than both of their fish.

As we backed into the dock we had our afternoon trip Mark from Colorado, Christian from Chilly and Joey from Ocean City Marry Land eager to give luck a shot at some deep sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.
Once again we went right to trolling and landing a hand full of small bonitos and 1 black fin tuna. After everyone had caught some fish we set out these small bonitos with big hooks in them.
Than all of a sudden out of nowhere one of the rods took off like a bullet and Christian grabbed the rod and the fight was on.
After a good 10 min back and forth tug a war this nice Wahoo popped up and Captain Paul reached out and BAM he was in the box.

Nice going Christian and thanks again for sharing your Wahoo with the rest of the charter I'm sure everyone had a great dinner.
Guys it was a blast fishing with you and we look forward to fishing again.

Fishing with the YOUNG Penny (Bennie) and friends in Fort Lauderdale aboard Hooked Up
February 20th, 2013
Today was not only a great day of fishing aboard the Hooked Up but I think we had a guy on the boat from the movie The Green Mile?
These guys were all originally Michigan. We had Gordon, Rod, Stan and 94-year old Penny I mean Bennie (LOL) That's right 94 and while I could kick my self for not getting a picture of all these guys together I'm here to tell you that if you seen a picture with all 4 guys in it you would have a hard time telling witch one was 94 years old.
The one thing all 4 guys had in common was they were all a blast to hang out with.
Not to mention we caught some cool fish.
We started out trolling and of course Penny (sorry I meant Bennie) caught the first fish. It turned out to be a bonito. But as it turned out that was all the fish we were going to catch trolling.
Ok time for plan B so in came the trolling gear and out went the kites with 4 live baits suspended from them.

As it turned out plan B worked out real good with Gordon and Rod each landing sailfish. Gordon, Rod, Stan and Penny THANKS it was a blast and Penny see you next year.

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
