Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

This morning we had a lovely family from Davie, Florida entertaining moms brother who is in town from New Jersey. The weather for fishing was good having some east wind and a small trickle of current heading north in shallow and a stronger current out deeper heading south. Spirits were up and everyone was eager to catch fish.
We started off trolling and caught a few bonito's right away and then to our surprise in 150 feet of water on the troll we hooked a huge fat boy barracuda! The barracuda put up a great fight and after about 20 minutes the Danimal stuck the barracuda and dragged it into the boat. The kids got a great scare and laugh at the huge barracuda snapping its jaw open and close with its big teeth showing bright and white! Trolling once again we caught a few more bonito's and then it was kingfish on! Moms Brother from New Jersey reeled in a nice 10 pound king! Good Eating right there! After that we had are fix for the troll and Captain Kunta asked if the gang wanted to try their luck at some kite fishing targeting a sailfish. Everyone was in agreement and the Danimal set up the live bait and Captain Kunta set out the kites. Only one bite went down but no strong connects. Maybe next time (in two weeks). We headed back in with big smiles all around!

In the afternoon we had our first Sicilian Italians. Father and daughter were at our dock extra early eager to get their fish on! We started off trolling and we kept getting swarmed with bonitos. we could not get away from them. We must have caught about 20 of them and released at least 10 or 12 of them. Great fighting but to much bloody tuna! Danimal suggested that we try our luck bottom dropping for something big. Captain Kunta and our charter agreed. Danimal got the drop tackle ready while Captain Kunta got to the drop spot. It was probably only about ten minutes before it was fish on! Dad helped his daughter reel up a beauty of a 25 pound black grouper!

Black grouper are absolutely amazing to eat! Luckily, Captain Kunta has a few spots that always holds some groupers. Great day of fishing with big smiles all around to end another successful trip on the Reel Appeal! For fishing information or tips for when you go out there call 954-638-6353. We're here to help.
