Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a pretty good sportfishing charter today aboard the Big Game. The wind was steady enough for kite fishing, so we decided to go out there and do some sailfishing. It's a little late in the sailfish season right now, but there are still some biting. We picked up some live baits early on the way out to fish. Launched the kites in about 250ft of water and waited patiently for a bite. Sailfish was the first bite we had. Came up and ate the short goggle eye. We caught him in about 20 minutes. We kept fishing the whole time while we were fighting the sailfish. The baits got dragged around a little, but once we caught the fish, they were still pretty lively. About a minute after catching the sailfish, a cobia swims up on the long bait and eats it. We are fighting him to the boat when we see an even bigger cobia following behind the one we are fighting. I had a pitch bait at the ready so I flipped it out near the cobias and the big one ate it. We ended up catching both cobias. Nothing else ate on the kite, but we did catch a nice 50 pound amberjack on 220ft wreck we stopped to make a drop on, headed back home.

Fishing is good in Fort Lauderdale this week. Sailfish are hitting, dolphin, wahoo and tuna are around offshore, amberjacks, cobia and groupers are biting on the shipwrecks. And sharks. Sharks are snapping too. Hammerheads, mako and thresher sharks are biting out there in 300+ feet of water. This is their big migration down our coast and it's happening now. Fish are biting, catch 'em while you can! Good luck and sea ya on the water.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Forecast:

Dolphin are moving back offshore after their big spawn this past month. They will be biting 5 miles offshore and further over the next couple months. Kingfish are moving in on the reef as we get closer to summer. Look for the big schools of bonito to begin moving through soon and eventually taking over the reefs.
Target Species:

sailfish, cobia, sharks, amberjack, tuna, wahoo, and grouper
