Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We had a heckuva fishing trip yesterday out of Fort Lauderdale. We found a whaleshark swimming through, which is a rare and awesome find. Right behind it was a school of cobia following it closely. We quickly pitched out a couple live baits near to the whaleshark and the cobias swam instantly over to our baits and were fighting over them. There were so many cobias, we couldn't count them all. We hooked into 5 cobias, fighting them all simultaneously, which spooked the whaleshark. The whaleshark went deep and we never saw him again. We caught all 5 of the cobia that we hooked into. It's not often that you catch a single cobia much less 5 of them in under 1/2 hour. It was an exciting day of fishing in Fort Lauderdale.

Cobia like to swim down our coastline this month, usually following whale sharks, turtles, sting rays and other slow moving marine creatures. If you ever spot a humpback whale out there, which is extremely rare, they usually have a full ecosystem surrounding them with lots of sharks, cobia, sailfish, tuna and other fish following close behind. Just one more great fishing charter in Fort Lauderdale for the books. This is the best month of the year for fishing off our coast. Get out there soon as May yields some of our best catches all year long. Let's go fishing!
