Cobia and Dolphin Biting on the Fort Lauderdale Reef

We had a great trip on the drift boat. The pics only show the big cobia and dolphin that we caught today, but we caught a bunch of snappers, groupers, porgies and grunts too. The fishing is good off Fort Lauderdale this week. Lots of action out there for everyone. We had one helluva trip today on the Catch My Drift. We started off with an angler catching a really nice mahi-mahi. The mahi are usually caught on our sportfishing charters, but this one we caught on a dead sardine on a flat line. Then we caught a really nice bunch of snappers drifting on the reef. At the very end of the trip, we got another really nice fish on our flat line again. It was a cobia. Cobia are a rare fish that we don't catch that often. They travel the reef, migrating with the Gulfsteam current, sucking up crabs, lobster, and any other baitfish they can grab us easily. Cobia bite extremely well this time of year, it's just being in the right place at the right time. You can increase your chance at catching a cobia by keeping a pitch bait ready (in case a cobia swims up near to the boat) and also by fishing a flat line bait (a sardine or ballyhoo rigged with no sinker just to float on the surface). It's a great way to catch kingfish, tuna, mahi and cobia when fishing on a drift fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale. Good luck out there fishing everyone.
