Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dad and sons have a great day Fishing Fort Lauderdale
June 10th, 2013
Today it was not just that we had a banner day of fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. It was that we had a banner day while fishing was slow. Little to no fish were caught by the other boats.
We fished with Brain and his sons Konnor and Garrett from Plantation Florida.
At first we trolled down the reef and caught a few kingfish and a box full of bonitos.
Than all of a sudden while Garrett was reeling in another bonito a big barracuda came right to the back of the boat and bit him in half.
Than our mate Paul thinking quick pulled in the bitten in half bonito and put a big trouble hook in him and right back out he went. This time when this monster barracuda came back for more he got more than he expected and BAM Garrett was Hooked Up.
Now that's a BIG BARACUDA!!
Once everyone had caught fish we switched from trolling to kite fishing with live baits suspended from the kites.
Once the kites were set we got surprised when a nice cobia showed up and BAM just like that another fish in the box.
Ok went back to kite fishing when all of a sudden a sailfish popped up and the fight was on.
This was great to watch while Garrett and Konnor both took turns reeling in this big sailfish.

Sailfish and Hammerhead Shark off the coast of Fort Lauderdale
June 9th, 2013
Today we had a great morning of deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale with Deau and James from Texas and Rick from Arizona.
We went right to kite fishing with live baits suspended from the kites and shark baits set down deep.
I don't recall who caught witch fish BUT we had a great day catching a big sailfish and hammerhead shark witch both were released in great shape.

Fishing the farmers from Florida off Fort Lauderdale
June 8th, 2013
Today we had a 2-boat charter with Hooked Up and Hooked Up 2.
Aboard the Hooked Up today we fished with David, Shan, Josh, Terry and Dave all from Florida.
We started out trolling our way to the south and landed a few kingfish and bonitos.
Once we got off the coast of Holly Wood Florida we brought in the trolling gear and set out our kites with 3 live baits suspended from them along with a couple shark baits set down deep.
It seemed that today was our day because before we knew it we were doing battle with a monster spinner shark.

Soon after catching and releasing him we caught a couple Mahi Mahi.
Than we got 3 fish on at the same time and they were all pulling drag like mad dogs. I've got to say that 9 out of 10 times we get Hooked Up we know what kind of fish we've got on BUT this time we just did not know.
They did not jump so we knew they were not sailfish or Mahi Mahi they just stayed down fought hard and fast.
As we got the first one to the boat I must admit it was a little of a disappointment when I laid my eyes on a jack carvel.

At this point we knew what the other 2 were and while they may not be a good eating fish we had a ball fighting them all the same.
Once we got done fighting the jacks we went right back to fishing when all of a sudden Mr. Hammerhead shows up and BAM back to fighting fish we went. After a good 15 to 20 min battle we had another shark to the boat.
We got a few pictures and a quick measurement and watched him swim away in good shape.

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
