Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dec 14th

Today we had Gram, Jason, Kevin, Mack, Joey and Matt all from Canada out for a day of deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

We started out our day picking up some live goggle eyes (Live Bait) from the bait boat and we headed right out to 150 feet of water and set out both of our kites with 2 live baits suspended from each kite.
Ok so the trap was set and now all we needed was for some big fish to come along and eat one.

It didn't take long till we got our first bite or should I say our first bites. We had 2 sailfish come up @ the same time and we managed to keep a hook in one of them and Joey wasted no time getting in the chair. It took a good 20 min till at last we had caught our first fish of the day.

It seemed that our first fish broke the ice because soon after that Kevin caught another big sail

soon to be followed up by Jason's black tip shark.

Guy's thanks again for a fun action packed day of fishing.
Try not to freeze your butts off up there this winter. (LOL)

Today we had Dana surprising her husband Ken on his 50th B day with a fishing trip.
We started out kite fishing with 4 baits suspended from 2 kites in 150 feet of water. We slowly moved out to 200 feet of water and then drifted back into 100 feet of water with out getting the first bite.

Ok fishing was just plain old slow but we still had another trick up our sleeves so we caught a half a dozen little bonitos and kept them alive in our live well.
Captain Greg worked his way into a ledge that dropped from 14 feet of water to 36 feet of water and J.J. put some trouble hooked in a couple of the live bonitos and set them out.

Before we even got the two baits set BAM the water-exploded line started screaming of the little spinner reel and we were Hooked Up.

Ken grabbed the rod and the fight was on. At first we almost got cut off when this sea monster darted straight for the ledge but Captain Greg was ready and got the boat on the out side of the ledge and avoided getting cut of.
After a good 15 min back and forth tug a war Ken finally got this monster barracuda close enough for J.J. to get a gaff into him.

Nice catch Ken and once again Happy B DAY!!

Today Nick from New York chartered the boat to take his son Mark and his son's golf coach Crabby out for the afternoon for a few hours of deep-sea fishing off the coast of Ft Lauderdale.

We started out trolling the reef with 2 planner board running about 45 feet deep along with 3 surface baits skipping across the surface.
We caught a half a dozen king fish in about the first hour of fishing.

Ok we had the skunk out of the box and everyone had caught fish now it was time to go for a big one. In came all the trolling gear and out went the kites with 4 baits suspended from them.

At first kite fishing started out slow producing no bites when all of a sudden up popped this big sailfish all over one of our little live baits. At last he took the bait and line started walking off the reel. We locked up the reel and that's when all hell broke lose.
This fish went nuts dancing all over the surface of the waves. Mark jumped in the chair and the fight was on.
After a good 20 Min Mark got this monster sailfish to the boat.
J.J. reached over and pulled Marks sail aboard for a quick photo and a measurement to have a replica trophy made of Marks first sail.
Way to go Mark!!

More Fishing Reports:

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
