Tim Hanson from Minnesota, Lee Hollatz from Indiana and Eric Hynes from Florida, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Eric fished with us over two years ago and is back with his friends for another offshore fishing adventure. After Hurricane Irma, we are back out charter fishing off of Fort Lauderdale and having fun catching fish.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two #8 plainers down and four surface baits and caught two Bonitos and three Kingfish on strip baits and three Barracudas on deep and surface lines. We continued trolling north in 150 feet of water going along the reef and fishing over wrecks and rock piles. Our two deep plainer lines, which dive 50 feet down, got most of the bites. We got more action on the deep lines, catching another pair of Kingfish and a few Bonitos.

We then headed offshore to 600 ft. of water looking for Black Fin Tuna and Mahi Mahi, and while heading to deeper waters, we caught even more Barracudas on the rigger lines, high line and plainer lines. Now offshore trolling in 600 ft. of water looking for weed patches, we located a group of birds diving and excited about the area. We trolled around the birds a few times when all of a sudden the high line went off - a Sailfish started jumping. Lee was the angler, and he did a great job battling the Sailfish with drag pulling out and long runs. Lee guided the Sailfish along the side of the boat and Matt, our mate, billed the Sailfish for picture taking - the hook was removed, and the Sailfish was released

With a total catch of seven Kingfish, five Bonitos, eight Barracudas and one Sailfish, it was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. We had a great trip with solid action and some fish to take home to eat.
