Darrell and Charmaigne Pullen from Kentucky changed their flight to stay one more day here in Fort Lauderdale to go fishing on the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep-sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As the anglers boarded the boat, I asked Darrell what type of fishing he was interested in, and his response was, "I would love to catch a Sailfish or Shark".

We headed out the inlet and started trolling by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore at 120 ft. of water. If you venture off another quarter of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.

We put out two #8 plainers with sea witches and doubled hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with 4 Ballyhoos. We trolled the reefs ranging from 70 ft. of water out to 180 ft. of water, zig zagging in and out. We kept trolling to the north and headed towards some of our 34 artificial wrecks here in Fort Lauderdale. We started catching Kingfish around one wreck that sits in 150 ft. of water. The anglers took turns bringing in their catches and wound up with 6 Kingfish – one weighing in at 13 lbs.

The water was looking right to fly the kite, so we put out the kite with two live baits. We also put out Shark baits - one on the surface, one midrange and one on the bottom in 250 ft. of water. Sailfish on the short kite bait! The Sailfish came right out of the water jumping – what a site! Darrell was the angler, and did a great job bringing the Sailfish to the side of the boat. Dave, the mate, grabbed the bill for picture taking – it was a big Sailfish weighing 65 lb. Good job Darrell!

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
